I Am Steven Gerrard
Written by Sean McLoughlin
‘I know that it does sound weird to say, yeah? But I proper envy Steven Gerrard. You know, the football player?’
Shane is a young man with a dream: to embody one of the biggest Liverpool legends in history. Though he shares an ambition no different to many of those around him, it soon transpires that Shane yearns for something far beyond football.
Written by Sean McLoughlin and Directed by Amy Roberts, the winner of What Happens Next 2023 is a story of love, loss, loneliness, and reality television; I Am Steven Gerrard is a one-man play that explores the complexities of masculinity, and what it means to be a real man in society today.
